This nationally recognised qualification was developed through a partnership between Tunnelskills and City & Guilds. It focuses specifically on the protocols for tunnel entries and the management of associated emergencies underground, ensuring that operatives are fully prepared for the unique challenges found in tunnel-related confined spaces.
Tunnel Safety Training Scheme (TSTS)
A joint venture between Tunnelskills and CITB, the Site Safety Plus TSTS superseded the Crossrail Tunnel Safety Card. It has now become the definitive industry benchmark, representing the minimum requirement for health and safety knowledge for any individual working in an underground environment across the UK.
NVQs in Tunnelling
Through Tunnelskills, Tunnelcraft Ltd has been instrumental in helping to develop specific NVQs for the diverse and complex operations carried out in underground tunnelling environments. Recognising that generic construction qualifications often fall short of the unique demands found sub-surface, we have worked closely with industry bodies to ensure these vocational qualifications reflect the precise technical skills and safety rigour required on-site.
CPCS Multi Service Vehicle Training (MSV) Training
Tunnelcraft prioritises workforce safety by providing operatives with comprehensive, specialised training. This includes attaining Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) qualifications, which are essential for the safe and efficient operation of Multi-Service Vehicles (MSVs) and adherence to strict safety protocols.
Tunnelskills

City & Guilds Training Facility
To ensure prompt project delivery, Tunnelcraft invested in a state-of-the-art, site-based confined space training facility. This strategic asset allows for the immediate training of operatives in tunnel entry and emergency procedures without the delays of external scheduling. Having trained more candidates than any other tunnelling contractor in the UK, Tunnelcraft remains a leader in specialist industry training.

Tunnelcraft is actively involved in shaping the next generation of industry talent through the Tunnelling Apprenticeship Programme. This includes developing training content and delivering practical education at both the Tunnelling Academy (TUCA) and the Dudley College of Technology at the Waltham Forest campus.
