Cormac began his impressive tunnelling career in the early 1970s, specialising in the demanding field of secondary lining of tunnels using the labour-intensive method of Ribs and Lagging. He gained comprehensive, hands-on experience, progressing from the pit top right through to the face. Cormac’s success and growing reputation led him to establish his own company, C P Hicks Limited, providing his specialist services and expertise to the industry. His capabilities did not go unnoticed, and in the late 1980s, he joined Danny Riordan and Johnny Johnson at Axial as Pit Boss, continuing his collaboration with both men at Tunnelcraft Limited following its formation in 1992.

Upon Danny Riordan’s retirement in 1995, Cormac was appointed Managing Director of Tunnelcraft Limited. Under his stewardship, the company maintained the founding vision and philosophy of delivering the very best service and upholding a strong work ethic. Cormac has successfully guided the company to significant and sustained success throughout his tenure.

With over 38 years of tunnelling experience, Jim Riordan brings exceptional operational knowledge and a deep-rooted connection to the industry.

After training as an electrician, Jim joined Axial Building Contractors in 1988 as a Banksman/Slinger. Following the company’s transition into Tunnelcraft Ltd, he progressed through a series of senior site roles including Miner, Lead Miner, Pit Boss and Tunnel Foreman.

Now serving as Operations Director, Jim draws on decades of practical experience to lead workforce deployment and support project delivery across the business. His strong understanding of site operations enables him to allocate resources effectively, maintain high standards of quality and safety, and ensure Tunnelcraft teams are set up to perform.

Jim is a proven leader who understands that successful delivery starts with a capable, well-supported workforce.

Gerry Keigher has 38 years of experience in the tunnelling industry and is recognised as a leading figure in UK tunnelling safety.

He has dedicated significant time to supporting TunnelSkills, CITB and City & Guilds in the development of tunnel-specific training content, including courses such as the Tunnel Safety Training Scheme (TSTS) and Tunnel Entry and Emergency Procedures.

As Tunnelcraft’s Health & Safety Manager, Gerry plays a central role in maintaining high standards across the business, leading on health, safety and workforce competence while also delivering training that helps ensure our employees are safe, prepared and fully supported in their working environment.

John Doheny joined Tunnelcraft in 2007 and built his experience across major projects including the Kings Cross Station redevelopment, Coppermill Lane shaft and tunnel lining, and the Lee Tunnel, where he progressed to General Foreman.

Following completion of the Lee Tunnel in 2016, John moved into the role of Contracts Manager, supporting Directors Jim Riordan and Cormac Hicks. He plays a key role in maintaining client relationships, managing tenders and contract negotiations, and ensuring Tunnelcraft teams continue to perform to the professional standards expected across the business.

With a strong operational background and detailed understanding of project delivery, John provides an important link between Tunnelcraft, its clients and the workforce on site.

With over 20 years of global experience in micro-tunnelling, Mark Price serves as Tunnel Manager for Tunnelcraft on the Long Itchington Wood and Bromford HS2 tunnel projects. Working in close collaboration with Balfour Beatty VINCI, Mark oversees weekly client consultations and conducts rigorous daily site inspections. His leadership ensures that all Tunnelcraft operatives uphold the company’s stringent safety standards, while his technical expertise remains vital to the successful delivery of these large-scale, modern infrastructure projects.
