Subterranean Expansion: King’s Cross St. Pancras Station Upgrade

The King’s Cross St. Pancras upgrade was a landmark £300m infrastructure project delivered for London Underground in preparation for the 2012 Olympics. Working with the Morgan / Bemo Joint Venture in 2007, Tunnelcraft provided the specialist expertise required to execute complex structural excavations beneath one of the world’s most congested transport hubs. 1 The project focused on creating new passenger interchanges and step-free access routes while maintaining the operational integrity of the existing station

Sprayed Concrete Lining (SCL)

Our scope was centred on the delivery of intricate geometries through SCL Tunnel drives and large-scale Ticket Hall excavations. We utilised sprayed concrete for primary stabilisation across various structures, including steep escalator drives and step-free access shafts. The project also required the precision integration of cross passages and the construction of cast iron segment passages.
