Upon graduation, our apprentices possess a robust and highly certified skill set. This includes core tunnelling competencies like the Tunnel Safety Training Scheme (TSTS) and City & Guilds 6151 Tunnel Entry & Emergency Procedures. Furthermore, they are certified in essential plant operations, including CPCS Slinger/Signaller, IPAF, and Locomotive Shunting, alongside key site management skills such as Traffic Marshall certification, ensuring they are fully competent for the modern underground environment.
Industry Leading Intake and a Record Investment in The Future: In 2023, Tunnelcraft proudly initiated 16 new apprentices, setting a record for a UK tunnelling labour supplier.
Our program is a blend of high-stakes practical experience and rigorous academic foundation. We ensure our apprentices aren’t just “on-site,” but are actively developing a versatile toolkit for a lifelong career.
Rotational Training: To build true adaptability, apprentices routinely rotate through different work gangs and supervisors. This “gang-swapping” approach ensures you learn diverse techniques, master collaboration, and become an agile member of any professional team.
Live Project Immersion: Gain hands-on experience on iconic projects such as the Thames Tideway Tunnel, working directly with Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs).
